Over the past year, corruption of public officials has been a trend, including in these five cases: In January, New York state lawmaker Eric Stevenson was found guilty of taking $22,000 in bribes regarding an adult day care center.
In Virginia, former Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife are on trial for for accepting loans and gifts totalling $165,000 in exchange for promoting a dietary supplement company.
Ex-Detroit, Mich.
mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in prison for corruption, racketeering and bribery.
In Baltimore, Md., 27 corrections officers were indicted for helping a prison gang manage a drug operation.
Finally, California immigration official Mai Nhu Nguyen was indicted for taking bribes in cash, sausage and egg rolls.
