A 23-year-old security guard shot himself with a gun issued to him by his employer.

His parents sued ABILFIY, an anti-psychotic drug with a known side effect of causing suicides.

In the complaint bringing the suit the parents knowledge they knew suicide was a side effect of the drug.

The attorneys defending ABIFY argued the complaint failed to state a cause of action.

The trial court dismissed the lawsuit pointing out the complaint failed to properly begin suit.

The case was finally decided by an appellate court.

Attorney David Allen explains the nature of legal complaints which are used to sue.
