The parliament of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has adopted a declaration of independence from Ukraine on Tuesday.
The move paves the way for March 16 referendum in Crimea, which will decide if the region (and the city of Sevastopol) will remain with Ukraine or join the Russian Federation.
According to a poll conducted by Crimea Republican Institute of Political and Sociological Research, 77 percent of people in Crimea and Sevastopol will vote to join Russia in the referendum.
