The newly appointed US Special Envoy for Syria, Daniel Rubinstein, released a statement today saying Syria may no longer continue to operate its embassy and consulates in the United States.
According to Rubinstein, "It is unacceptable for individuals appointed by that regime to conduct diplomatic or consular operations in the United States." The Syrian embassy in Washington, DC and consulates in Michigan and Texas have been informed that they must "immediately suspend operations." The Syrian mission to the United Nations in New York is unaffected.
Gayane Chichakyan reports on this latest step by the US.
