An aerial drone view shows hundreds of thousands of people gathered in central Istanbul on Sunday to celebrate Newroz at an event organised by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and People's Democratic Congress (HDK).
Colourful flags of the BDP, HDK, PKK and NGOs can be seen, as well as banners of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
The motto for the Kurdish New Year's celebrations was 'Freedom for Ocalan', 'Status to Kurds'.
Celebrations began with speeches from BDP parliamentarians and the lighting of the Newroz fire.
Women were wearing colourful outfits in the style of traditional Kurdish custom, while almost all people were wearing scarves in the three colours red, green and yellow, symbolising the Kurdish flag.
