The New York Police Department has disbanded the controversial unit that conducted wide spread surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods.
Reporting by the Associated Press over two years ago revealed the "Demographics Unit" used undercover officers to investigate and follow members of mosques and student groups without cause.
One of the more contentious practices used by the unit was the labeling of mosques as terrorist organizations, which gave the NYPD the justification to record sermons and spy on religious leaders.
RT's Ameera David has more details on the dissolution of this once-secretive unit.
