Tens of thousands of children have turned into the breadwinners of their families in Afghanistan, which is known as the worst place to be born in the world.
In addition to extreme poverty and violence, these children are also threatened with being misused by drug and beggar mafias.
Yet, some believe that changes have been made to improve the situation of the Afghan children.
Since the ouster of the Taliban, the Afghan society has seen slogans in issues like human rights and children's rights.
On the ground, however, there's another story.
The capital Kabul has a population of around six million people.
Among them are around 6000 street children who live in tough conditions.
Most of them belong to fatherless families who depend on their children to find a way to survive.
Events like the International Day for Protection of Children are commemorated across Afghanistan.
But experts say this is just a symbolic act.
