Sarah Slamen A Texas councilwoman came under fire this week for blaming "blacks" for the problems of the local community and standing by it.
And today, one Texas Democrat told MSNBC guest host Michael Eric Dyson that racists in Texas are very "open and proud" about their bigotry." Sarah Slamen agreed with Dyson that racism is a big problem in Texas these days, from comments like that one legislator's to Texas fighting the Voting Rights Act.
Slamen said the investigation over the remarks made by Texas official Connie Trube is just "stage-dressing to protect all the racists that are around her." She declared, "The melanin in people's skin has nothing to do with why our schools are failing," and blamed the state Republican party for just that.
But Slamen also said there's a reason why people like Trube feel they can speak out like that.
"Racism isn't limited to Texas, we're just more out and proud with it.
We don't segregate and live apart from each other like they do in the Northeast.
In the South, we're open with it."
Slamen, you might remember, is the same woman who was ejected from the Texas State Senate building last year during a fiery testimony she gave on abortion rights.
