The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which oversees spy agencies, has allowed the NSA to continue to warrantlessly collect metadata about people’s phone calls.
The NSA’s current permit expires on December 5.
That means the agency can operate for yet another three months.
The reauthorization comes as a panel of judges recently voiced concern about the NSA surveillance program's vast reach.
The judges argue that Washington’s spying program fails on constitutional grounds.
The US is under pressure at home and abroad to stop its worldwide surveillance activities.
