Britain and Turkey are locked in a dispute over the case of three British teenage girls who were allegedly heading to Syria to join terrorists.

The UK police are defending their actions but Turkey has accused London of a shameful delay in notifying Ankara.

The Metropolitan Police said they notified the Turkish embassy in London a day after the girls' disappearance.

The families of the girls have questioned how the teenagers were able to leave Britain for Syria earlier this week without police action.

Turkey also accused Britain of a reprehensible delay of three days in alerting Turkish authorities.

Deputy foreign minister, Bulent Arinc said it was a condemnable act for Britain which is famous for its Scotland Yard.

The three girls, aged between 15 and 17, boarded a flight from London to Istanbul last Tuesday.
