On Wednesday, the right-wing John Roberts Supreme Court did something really remarkable.
It actually ruled in favor of minorities and the rights of democracy.
This is almost unrecognizable for this court.
In a 5-4 decision, the court ordered a lower court to reconsider whether redistricting plans that were drawn up by Alabama Republicans would have an influence in diluting votes in that state.
In the old days of Earl Warren court, rulings like this were common.
We expected to see good, solid rulings on behalf of consumers.
But ever since the John Roberts court took the helm in 2005, SCOTUS has moved sharply to the right and waged an all out assault on minority voting rights.
In other words, Wednesday’s decision was a big deal.
