House passes bill to ban NSA data collection
The US House of Representatives has passed a bill which puts an end to data collection from millions of Americans by the country’s National Security Agency.The bill, named USA Freedom Act, was passed by 338 votes with broad bipartisan support.
It is widely seen as a big win for privacy and civil rights advocates who blamed the N-S-A for its unconstitutional collecting of ordinary citizens’ telephone data.
The controversial program was revealed in 2013 by former security contractor Edward Snowden.
The revelation inflicted a heavy blow to the US image across the globe.
