There’s a beast in south Brooklyn — a yawning sinkhole appeared without warning Tuesday and looks to be
at least a dozen feet deep.
It’s at the corner of 5th Ave.
and 64th St.
in Sunset Park and police are diverting traffic from the busy intersection just north of the Gowanus Expressway.
No injuries were reported when the ground suddenly opened up Tuesday morning and the street caved in, exposing gas lines and water mains.
National Grid workers arrived quickly on the scene and began securing the exposed gas lines.
It was not immediately clear if water service to nearby homes and businesses were affected by the hole.
